The Cathedral also hosts a range of vibrant and exciting concerts. The weekly, Saturday, ‘Cathedral at noon’ recitals have run continuously for 12 years, encompassing an eclectic mix of musical genres. The series has strong links with University of Aberdeen, frequently showcasing new student talent from the University Music Department; Aberdeen City Music School and local Schools and Folk Musicians.
The audience are able to meet the performers over an informal buffet lunch afterwards. The Cathedral hosts larger scale concerts on a regular basis. These have recently included a reconstruction of the Venetian liturgy of Vespers for the Feast of the Annunciation, performed by Con Anima Chamber Choir and Orchestra and conducted by Professor Andrew Morrisson, and the World Premier performance of ‘St Andrew Mass’, composed Sarah Rimkus and conducted by Prof Andrew Morrisson.
